Commanders get bonus troops for each officer they have. The bonus is equal to one half the daily troop bonus of the officer.
One Commander can have up to ten officers.
Commanders will often help defend officers when trouble starts with other players.
Commanders are often put in charge of smaller groups that are part of a larger alliance.
To become someone's officer, click on their name in the attack screen and click the link that says "Make ??? my Commander".
After that, you must be approved by that commander to be part of the group. You may want to send them a message to speed up the process.
